Peckinpah toma un hiperactivo libro de espía y lo gira en un película anti-acción. Reuniéndose alumnos de “El Padrino” Robert Duvall y James Caan, “Elite de Asesino” presente agentes como bromistas desinteresados, los golpe la estrella en los primeros veinte minutos y entonces lo pone en el camino lento a la recuperación donde es abandonado por casi todos. Un camino que lo toma finalmente a una venganza que él no querer. Añada Bo Hopkins, Burt Young, Mako y algún Ninjas y usted consiguen una película defectuosa pero fascinante.

Peckinpah takes a hyper spy thriller and turns it into an anti-action flick. Reuniting ‘Godfather’ alumni Robert Duvall and James Caan, “Killer Elite” presents operatives as disinterested jokers, knocks out the star in the first twenty minutes and then puts him on the slow road to recovery where he is abandoned by nearly all. A road that takes him eventually to a vengeance he does not want. Throw in Bo Hopkins, Burt Young, Mako and some Ninjas and you get a flawed but fascinating film.

Ha visto tres versiones desde que yo vi primero el oda de Sam Peckinpah para la Muerte Despacio, recuerda aúna con subtitulados español más corto. Todo fue tapado en el vencimiento ralentizado, oscuro y pesado. Las actitudes, las lealtades y el ‘Wld West,’ todos si va la suerte de todas las cosas. Todos le ven viniendo, todos se encogen de hombros y todos aceptar lo que vengar. Que casi todo son malvados no previene el sentimiento de compasión.  Nunca fue utilizado mejor el hastío de James Coburn.

Have seen three versions since I first saw Sam Peckinpah’s ode to Slow Death, even remember a shorter Spanish subtitled one. All were cloaked in heavy dark slow-motion expiration. Attitudes, loyalties and the Wild West all go the way of all things. Everyone sees it coming, everyone shrugs their shoulders and all lay down before it. That nearly all are vile does not prevent the feeling of pity. James Coburn’s world-weariness was never better used.

¡Por supuesto ellos no aterrizarían en la verga de la Casa Blanca! Spielberg presenta lo que fue un cuento de peliculas “B” de los 50’s como una cargó conspiración con un carrera contra tiempo con efectos cinematógrafo asombrosos que  todavía asombrar. Mas lo retiene la alma con desempeños fuertes por Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Bob Balaban, Terri Garr y un François Truffaut muy efectivo. ¡Y me atrevo usted que no silbar después de mirar esto!

Of course they wouldn’t land on the White House lawn! Spielberg presents what was a 50’s B-Movie plot as a conspiracy burdened race against time with astonishing special effects that still hold up. Yet it retain’s it’s soul with strong performances by Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Bob Balaban, Terri Garr and an effective François Truffaut. And I dare you not to whistle after watching this!

Sí, Henri-Georges Clouzot’s ‘Wages of Fear’ de 1953 es considerado superior, por Clouzot también. Todavía, el 1977 versión de William Friedkin aplica un estilo arenoso que eleva realmente la tensión. El carácter de Roy Scheider engendra simpatía porque él no es tan culpo en un mar de hombres culpables, pero no escapa este torcido cuento de O. Henry. La música de Tangerine Dream hacer anciano la película para algunos, pero lo dar todo una sentimiento sobrenatural

Yes, Henri-Georges Clouzot’s 1953 ‘Wages of Fear’ is considered superior, even by Clouzot. Yet, William Friedkin’s 1977 remake applies a gritty style that actually heightens the tension. Roy Scheider’s character engenders sympathy because he is not as guilty in a sea of guilty men, but, even he will does not escape this twisted O. Henry story. Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack dates the film for some though it gives the whole caper an out-worldly quality.

Fue la última vez que pudea compra un programa para una película, la última vez que vi una intermisión en una presentación de primer-corre. Este, también, yo tengo en cada formato disponible.

“Apocalypse Now” threw me against the back of the theater with it’s Heart Of Darkness Madness, sharp and crisp in 70mm Dolby Stereo. It was the last time I was able to buy a program for a film, the last time I saw an intermission in a first-run presentation. This one, too, I have in every format available.
